PORT OF LA SCHOOLS

Port of LA Schools Port of LA Schools Port of LA Schools Hubbs Sea World Research Institute in San Diego, CA has been committed to educating our younger students on the importance of conservation when it comes to our ocean resources and the role aquaculture plays in that. The white sea bass educational program is a spin off of the commercial scale replenishment program to release larger juvenile sea bass into the pacific off California.

This program allows high school students to grow white sea bass from a fingerling to juvenile (release size) through the course of a semester, tag them with an identifier, and release them into the ocean. As a partner in this program Oceans Design has sought to provide educational recirculation systems that incorporate all the components that would be typical for a commercial scale aquaculture system. Budgets are always an issue but at Port of LA schools we we're able to come very close by fabricating a system with solids removal, biofiltration, foam fractionation, UV sterilization, and degassing all on a single modular rack with wheels. We we're proud to present this to the school and it has been used semester after semester to educate are youth on aquaculture.

MOUNT HELIX CHARTER SCOOL

Mount Helix Charter Scool Mount Helix Charter Scool Mount Helix Charter School located in San Diego has great program for marine science at the high school level. They are part of the white sea bass in the classroom program and have been aspiring to teach aquaponics as well. Oceans Design has supplied Mount Helix with several classroom systems which help educate students on the equipment required and biological needs of culturing fish. Oceans Design has been a strong supporter of these educational programs and continues to this day. It's not uncommon to see a 10 gpm classroom system being built right aside a 2000 gpm filtration system.

PREUSS HIGH SCHOOL

Preuss High School Preuss High School Preuss high School is located La Jolla, CA. As part of their science program they sought to raise fish in their small lab and needed a recirculating system with tank. Oceans Design installed an Double wall insulated tank with acrylic viewing window along with a small filtration system that was tucked underneath the lab bench. The filtration system included solids removal, biofiltration, foam fractionation, and UV disinfection processes. As with most of these facilities, space is at a premium so systems have be as compact as possible without compromising quality or functionality. This system has been operating for over 5 years now with many students learning and invaluable hands on approach to raising fish.
